The BWL Collective seeks to answer the question: What Makes a Work Life Beautiful?
We're on a mission to find out what keeps people happier at work (and therefore less stressed, frustrated, burnt out, disenchanted, and so on).
Through annual surveys (2021, 2022) we have identified 7 main values, or ingredients, from the data.
Following you will find those 7 key ingredients that global professionals say enable a beautiful work life.
Agency is having autonomy, responsibility and ownership over your work and time, and the ability to set your own boundaries.
AWARENESS & REALIZATION
Awareness & Realization is using self, social, and situational awareness to connect, communicate, and consciously serve the highest good of self and others, understanding and leveraging your unique traits, strengths, and needs, and using work as a platform for self-actualization.
Belonging is feeling included, having a deep sense of trust, safety, and support, integrating personal values into work, and having meaningful interactions, collaboration, and community.
SECURITY & SAFETY
Security & Safety is experiencing holistic safety and security (psychological, physical, emotional, spiritual, financial), receiving equitable care and compensation, knowing your well-being is honored, and being able to be your whole, authentic self at work without repercussion or fear.
Organizational Structure is the container and infrastructure of employment. It includes choosing the best structure for your individual needs and goals (employee, self-employed, gig, etc). It also includes operating in an environment that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive and has conscious and fair leadership, culture, processes, and systems that support you.
MEANING & PURPOSE
Meaning & Purpose is having satisfaction, fulfillment and meaning in work, linking personal values with professional goals, and being connected to a mission or larger goal.
Aliveness is a feeling of being fully alive, awake, and fueled by work, having a positive balance of energy-giving versus energy-draining moments, and using your passion, curiosity, and creativity.

Our 2022 survey data analyzed the most popular words for how people see the future of work. "Flexible" was the most used.
How do you make a beautiful work life for others?
Cultivating a beautiful work space for others is equally important. Survey participants focused on how to "support" the most, followed by how to "listen."
